Terms of service
Last updated November 3, 2026
These terms apply when you use better-vault: the web app, the desktop app and this website. By using better-vault you agree to them. If you don't, please don't use it.
The software
better-vault is free, open-source software, published under the MIT license. You may use, copy, change and share it under that license. These terms don't limit the rights the license gives you.
Your content and accounts
You own everything you add to better-vault and everything it makes for you. It stays on your device. You are responsible for your content, for having the right to use it, and for keeping backups.
better-vault works with services you choose, such as AI providers and storage services, using your own keys and accounts. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and pricing, and any costs they charge are yours.
Acceptable use
Don't use better-vault to break the law, to infringe others' rights, or to break the terms of the services you connect to it. Don't use it to access data you aren't allowed to access.
AI output
Answers and Studio outputs are generated by AI models and can be wrong, incomplete or out of date, even when they cite your sources. Check anything important before you rely on it. better-vault is not a source of professional advice.
No warranty
better-vault is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. To the extent the law allows, the maintainers and contributors are not liable for any claim, damage or loss arising from its use, including lost data.
Changes
These terms may change as better-vault does. The date above shows the latest change, and the history is public in the repository. For questions, open an issue at github.com/better-vault/better-vault/issues. Our privacy policy explains how data is handled.
